A Computer Scientist's Guide to Cell Biology

A Computer Scientist’s Guide to Cell Biology by William W. Cohen. This is a short book (100 pages) that covers aspects of cell biology, including definitions, mechanisms like protein production and experiments commonly performed to understand the cell better.

I was personally disappointed by the book, mainly because I was (unjustifiably so) expecting this book to be more of an intersection between Computer Science and Biology and the fact it was quite pricey. There’s little Computer Science in it besides some loose analogies with programming. This book is a good introduction to cell biology, perhaps with a selection of topics more likely to be needed to make sense of problems in bio-informatics.

I actually wrote about Cell Biology before (post) with some forceful analogies with programming, but I’m still hoping to read about a more detailed discussion on “computability” performed by biological organisms.
