Oedipus

Laius was the king of Thebes, married to queen Jocasta. At the oracle of Delphi, he received the prophecy he would be killed by his son who would then marry own mother, Jocasta.

To prevent it from happening, when his son Oedipus was born, Laius asked a servant to take him to the mountains to starve and die. The servant took pity on the boy and instead took him to be adopted by another family.

Later in life, without knowing his origins, Oedipus killed his own biological father in a quarrel and later, to save his father’s kingdom from the enemies, took over the throne and ended up marrying the queen Jocasta, his biological mother.

After consulting with an oracle he found out what had happened. His mother hanged herself and he seized two pins from her dress and blinded himself with them.
